The Doors Live!

Jim Morrison was the front man of the great band The Doors, and maybe the most talked about, but certainly not the only great creative mind that made up the rock band out of Los Angeles California. They were four all American kids with a love for music doing what they loved to do in the year 1965. Jim Morrison- vocalist, Ray Manzarek- keyboardist, John Densmore-drummer, and Robby Krieger on the guitar. Electra Records signed them in 1966. The first of a series of top ten albums in the US was released in 1967, titled The doors. Then came : *Strange Days (1967) *Waiting for the Sun (1968) *The Soft Parade (1969) *Morrison Hotel (1970) *Absolutely Live (1970) *L.A Woman (1971) The albums won them 19 gold, 14 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone. In the 1960’s they were the most controversial act around and the act to catch on Sunset Boulevard when you were in LA. Mainly because of Jim Morrison’s looks, ground breaking lyrics and his crazy on stage persona, that in those days was jaw dropping. But come to think of it, no one since has made such a huge mark on the music scene of LA that I can think of. The Lizard King holds his throw till this day, looking down upon us from the heavens… if in fact he actually has left this place, some say he is still among us. He is said to have past away in 1971. The remaining members forged on as a trio until they decided to breakup in 1973. In 1993 the Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Before they were signed on by Elektra Records the...

Jimi Hendrix The Man The Myth the Legend...

Where does one start when they are writing about such a legend as Jimi Hendrix? He is probably the most talked about guitar player in the world that has ever existed. He has influenced so many people in the music world, all the way to the famous to your everyday lovers of music. Some that are simply content with listening to his music and regarding him as the best. Then you have the fanatics who know every bit of trivia and information pertaining to the Rock God, who… to some folks seems immortal. They collect everything they can get their hands on that has anything to do with him, every record, poster, book, shirt and any random memorabilia that can “Light their fire” so to speak, for the great man who created his own language with the sound of his guitar. Then you have the folks who he has inspired to go on to their own musical career, feeling the infectious urge to pick up a guitar at a young age, perfecting it and finding their own style…taking them on a musical journey all their own. Some finding stardom and giving Jimi Hendrix credit for all his inspiration, some staying underground in garage bands all over the world. Either way you look at it the guitarist certainly made his mark on the world, forever changing the history of music, and the people who he touched with his tunes and words. He was born November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington and left this earth to soon in my opinion on September 18, 1970 in London at the age of 27. His birth certificate names him Johnny Allen Hendrix, sounds like a rock star’s name to me.. wonder why he changed...

Led Zeppelin Still the Best in Classic Rock...

If you’re into Classic Rock then you gotta love Led Zeppelin! I must say it’s one of my all time favorite bands. They will forever be considered Classic and some may even say legends. They came from over the pond…London, England and started out as The New Yard Birds in 1968. Quickly changing the name to Led Zeppelin, they were signed on by Atlantic, but later formed their own label known as Swan Song. The name Led Zeppelin came about from sort of a teasing. A couple of nay Sayers said the new band would go down like a led balloon… foreseeing disastrous results. Ha… proved them wrong! They’ve won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Throughout their career, Led Zeppelin has collected many nods and awards. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Music Hall of Fame in the UK in 2006. Included with their awards are a 2005 American Music Award, and the 2006 Polar music Prize. Let’s talk about the influence they have on the music of today, shall we? Take a look the way that the front man Robert Plant dressed back in their hay day. Tight Hip Hugger pants ragged clingy T-shirts, scarves, big hair and jewelry and let’s not forget the skin tight lace sided pants worn by the hair metal bands of the 80’s. All, in my opinion have been… Not so much copied but more of an inspired touch by Mr. Plant and used by bands and a lot of the youth today. Mostly every second hand store you walk into these days has at least two or three of the main components you need to become a hot rocker. The attitude and much,...
