Nirvana – Teen Spirit Never Lost...

Every one knows Seattle is known for its great music scene and coffee, its even the Birth place of the great Jimi Hendrix himself! But it might have out done itself when it pushed out the grunge Band Nirvana. The bands name itself meaning something peaceful and not of this place earth we call home, is kind of an oxymoron. The group had a restless and troubled career in its prolific life span of seven years. Besides the creation of three studio albums: *Bleach (1989) *Nevermind (1991) *In Utero (1993) Within those albums are unforgettable songs such as Smells like Teen Spirit, Come as you are and Heart Shaped Box. They accomplished the feat of making underground garage music somewhat mainstream bringing it to radio stations and television shows all over the world. Giving a face to the alternative music scene and the youth of that time a voice. Nirvana even started a fashion trend, that was somewhat already in affect at the time but was considered glorified thrift store vogue. Which was really what the community of alternative music could afford, so they wore it proudly as a statement and kind of a finger thrown upwards to society. Baggy pants, most likely to have holes with a tattered dirty look and flannels were the new thing to have when Nirvana came into the spotlight and retailers cashed in on coping the look with fresh, distressed looking garments for the public to buy. I should say here that this was one of the things that bothered the lead singer and founder of the band Kurt Cobain, it rubbed him raw with irritation. The money and fame he accumulated through his talent was a double edge sword to the troubled...

Pixies Music Band is Pure Visual...

The music of the Pixies is visual, as in the lyrics of their songs are image provoking as well as poetic. Mixed with the acoustic as well as electronic music added to the poetry of their songs makes a perfect blend of mind opening, attitude lifting and sometimes darkening pleasantries for your world. The name of the band The Pixies comes from another mythical world, bringing visions of little trouble causing folks that run free and wild in the trees and forests, even finding makeshift forests in our own yards. To us apartment dwelling humans a Pixie can even find a home with us in our humble surroundings and follow us from home to home as we move along in this journey of life. In reality the band is made up of four very talented human beings. Black Francis- vocals/rhythm guitar, Joey Santiago- lead guitar, Kim Deals- bass/vocals and David Lovering- drums. The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in Boston Massachusetts in 1986. They achieved modest commercial success in their own home county but were significantly more successful in the United Kingdom and Mainland Europe. The Band broke up in 1993 under angry and bitter circumstances… but regrouped in 2004 to find their fans eagerly waiting, selling out concerts and world tours. The Pixies popularity grew without them giving any extra effort other than just being a great unorthodox band. Combining surf music and punk rock was the magic key to their success and they should keep up the creative scramble for many years to come. Hopefully they will last long enough for my children to see them perform, but if not… I plan on keeping them in my music library forever… So, at least that...

The Doors Live!

Jim Morrison was the front man of the great band The Doors, and maybe the most talked about, but certainly not the only great creative mind that made up the rock band out of Los Angeles California. They were four all American kids with a love for music doing what they loved to do in the year 1965. Jim Morrison- vocalist, Ray Manzarek- keyboardist, John Densmore-drummer, and Robby Krieger on the guitar. Electra Records signed them in 1966. The first of a series of top ten albums in the US was released in 1967, titled The doors. Then came : *Strange Days (1967) *Waiting for the Sun (1968) *The Soft Parade (1969) *Morrison Hotel (1970) *Absolutely Live (1970) *L.A Woman (1971) The albums won them 19 gold, 14 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone. In the 1960’s they were the most controversial act around and the act to catch on Sunset Boulevard when you were in LA. Mainly because of Jim Morrison’s looks, ground breaking lyrics and his crazy on stage persona, that in those days was jaw dropping. But come to think of it, no one since has made such a huge mark on the music scene of LA that I can think of. The Lizard King holds his throw till this day, looking down upon us from the heavens… if in fact he actually has left this place, some say he is still among us. He is said to have past away in 1971. The remaining members forged on as a trio until they decided to breakup in 1973. In 1993 the Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Before they were signed on by Elektra Records the...

Either way you look at it the guitarist certainly made his mark on the world, forever changing the history of music, and the people who he touched with his tunes and words. He was born November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington and left this earth to soon in my opinion on September 18, 1970 in London at the age of 27.
